As we seek to find balance in our everyday lives between the demands of our careers, families, friends and world happenings, the one thing we have control over is focusing on us. This past Monday, Founder Mell led a LIVE chat on Instagram talking about ways you can feed your soul everyday. She offers 10 Ways you can do this even as you go about your daily routines.
This is the reason we started AATS back in 2018 is so that we can offer Black wellness; to build a real conscious community where each individual is anxious to feed her soul; an alternative to the commodification of all white self-care and self-love mantras being touted across the internet.
Today, like in 2018, the world is just as heavy and becoming increasingly more so. As we celebrated a guilty verdict – justice for George Floyd, there is another news break of a 16-year-old shot by a cop.
In these times our peace is challenged and we believe that can be fixed by Feeding Our Soul.
We do have a choice – spend time focusing on what we cannot control OR we can turn the focus inward.
So, what is your Soul?
Wikipedia describes the soul as the ‘driver’ in the body. It is the roohu or spirit or atma, the presence of which makes the physical body alive. Many religious and philosophical traditions support the view that the soul is the ethereal substance – a spirit; a non-material spark – particular to a unique living being, meaning you and I cannot have the same soul.
It helps to be conscious of the fact that you are a soul first, here on a mission. And just like your body, your soul deserves care and feeding. When you work to meet the goals of your mission, you automatically feed your soul. You don’t have to be religious for this to happen, or doing something overtly spiritual.
In the simplest sense it means doing something that you love and/or are passionate about. That could be anything… like reading, meditating, yoga, soaking in the bath, writing, painting or like Cindy from A Peace of Me Skincare – gardening.
Founder Mell’s personal belief for feeding her soul is continuing to live in her divine power doing the things as she was called to do.

10 Ways To Feed Your Soul
1. Talk To Yourself
Have a conversation with your soul. Or, talk to Source, Creator, God—whatever you call the Divine. Pray. Speak as if you are bearing your soul to the one person you trust totally and who can offer you support. Founder Mell shared that in her most quiet moments, she has had her biggest revelations and best leads in life.
2. Get a Spiritual Practice
Create or conduct rituals of any type and from any spiritual tradition that speaks to you. Light candles. Burn incense. Begin a morning routine. Smudge. Set intentions. Your soul will join you and grow stronger with every ritual you perform.
3. Get Quiet
Stop talking. Turn off the music, television, podcast, audiobook, or video. Allow yourself to experience quiet. In that quietude, listen. Your soul will speak to you softly.
4. Pay Attention
Become highly conscious of what you feel pulled to do, what makes you feel good, and what draws your attention. These are the things your soul desires. And if you don’t feeling good, feel distracted, or obligated to do something, your soul is asking you loudly and clearly to make a different decision.
5. Inspire Yourself
Read books, have engaging conversations, listen to music, watch videos of motivational speakers. Do something that inspires you.
Write your thoughts in a journal. Even better, ask your soul to speak to you. Then let your pen fill the pages with everything your soul says.
7. Commune with Nature
Spend time outside the concrete jungle (if you live in a big city), your home office, or the confines of your home in general. Spend time in nature! Hug a tree. Plant a garden. Sit by a lake or river. Swim in the ocean. Admire the flowers. Watch the wind ruffle the leaves. Allow yourself—and your soul—to experience Mother Nature.
8. Practice Gratitude
When you practice gratitude daily, you provide your soul with the prescription it needs to thrive. It knows there is plenty… It is part of the abundance of the Universe. When you feel grateful, you acknowledge your soul.
9. Say No
Say “no” to the things that don’t make you happy, excited, fulfilled, peaceful, or inspired. Whenever you say “yes” to something you don’t want to do or be, you starve your soul a little bit. And you fill your time with responsibilities and activities that don’t care for or feed your soul.
10. Think Positively
Change your thoughts to ones of appreciation, acceptance, abundance, and hope. Say affirmations. Look for the silver lining. Positivity aligns you with your soul. Complaining, judging, being jealous, and focusing on scarcity and other negative things are poisonous to your soul. Here’s a video about a woman who learned to feed her soul by chanelling her anger into purpose.
